Get Local @ School

Children require wholesome nutritious food to aid their growing body and mind. Fresh seasonal produce is the ideal diet for our children. Serving local food in school cafeterias, however, can sometimes be a daunting task. We encourage schools to start where they can, such as featuring one local product a month.

Reforming the school food system is an important long-term goal, beginning with increasing fresh local products served. Creating positive experiences with fresh fruits and vegetables encourages students to eat them. We are all more likely to eat foods we are familiar with, which is why we would like to introduce a Farm to School programme offering students multiple connections and introductions to a variety of foods. School gardens, farm visits and local food cooking are potential educational components of this programme that are not only engaging teaching tools, but also create these positive experiences with fresh healthy food.

Ibiza Preservation Foundation is engaging with local government (Consell and ayuntamientos) and other interested parties to explore ways in which to influence the procurement of food in school cafeterias. We are also working with privately owned schools to connect these directly with producers.

Get Local @ Hospital

The Farm to Institution market holds more power to benefit farmers and fishermen than any other local food market. When institutions make it a priority to buy local, they can spur unprecedented innovation and investment across the supply chain and make a significant economic impact.
